American Museum of Asmat Art The purpose of the American Museum of Asmat Art is to preserve and promote the extraordinary art and culture of the Asmat. The Asmat are a semi-nomadic people who inhabit the rain forest and tribal rivers along the southwest coast of Irian Jaya, Indonesia. The Museum consolidates and expands upon the efforts of the Crosier Order in helping the Asmat retain and celebrate their rich cultural heritage. Components of the American Museum of Asmat Art include: the Crosier Asmat Museum in Hastings, Nebraska; national art touring and educational programs; and the art exhibition, documentation and conservation programs of the Bishop Sowada Gallery of Asmat Art in St. Paul, Minnesota.
